A medium sized cichlid from Lake Malawi, the Elongatus is an mbuna prone to aggression and defending a territory. They are distinguished by a beautiful blue colouration with darker blue bars and yellow tinged tail with females identified by darker colouration and a slimmer body shape. Aim to feed a balanced diet, and keep up on regular water changes to prevent bloat. Keep a larger number of females per single male to spread aggression, and choose tank mates of a similar size and temperament. This species appreciates a rocky set-up, with a sandy substrate.
