Offering Pseudocrenilabrus philander (Southern Mouth-Brooder).
Growing to between 3 – 5 inches, and found in a diverse range of habitats, the Southern Mouthbrooder is well known for its maternal mouthbrooding instinct with many aquarists seeking to replicate this behaviour.
A somewhat rare fish in the aquatic hobby, they are beautifully coloured with intriguing behaviours, with a natural set-up consisting of numerous hiding places helping to enhance this behaviour.
They appreciate a mixed diet, however a good staple cichlid pellet will go a long way to ensuring this species health. Like many African cichlids they can be very territorial therefore careful stocking should be considered. In groups they are best kept as a male with a harem, unless the aquarium is very large.
