Growing a to a maximum of 5 inches, this beautifully coloured African cichlid goes by such titles as fire blue, and spindle hap and requires a large tank (300 litres +) to thrive. Accepting a wide variety of foods, it is relatively aggressive and benefits from a tank decorated with plenty of rockwork to establish territory with natural boundaries. It reproduces via mouth brooding, males will defend the nest territory while the female stores the fry in her mouth for up to 4 weeks without eating.
