An attractively coloured fish from South America, the red breasted acara is so named for its red chest colouring, alongside iridescent colouring on its body and fins. Growing to approximately 3 inches, they are hardy and undemanding displaying moderate aggression seen predominantly during breeding. They have sometimes been assimilated into peaceful community set-ups, avoiding overly small fish such as neon tetras that may be preyed upon. Undemanding eaters, they will accept commercial foods alongside live and frozen aim to feed a balanced diet to promote good health and colouration.
