Growing to approximately 9 inches in aquaria, chocolate cichlids are a South American cichlid originating in the rivers of the Amazon. Popular for its olive colouration and intense markings, they have proven to be amongst the calmer cichlids available, able to socialise with its own kind and even become tame enough to be hand fed. Aim to provide a mixed omnivorous diet, including live, frozen and dried commercial foods along with some sort of vegetable matter to aid their digestion. This will also develop their colouration. Best kept in large aquaria with natural décor such as sand, gravel and various woods, it appreciates regularly cleaned water to maintain their health and vibrancy.
