A large cichlid, growing to approximately 9 inches, severums are known as one of the more peaceful larger cichlids but can still be prone to aggression in breeding circumstances or individual personality. They are avid omnivores that do well in groups of their own kind, they have also been housed in community set-ups provided smaller fish that can fit into their mouth are avoided. Rotkeil severums are easily identified by their red shoulders, making for attractive display fish when kept under suitable lighting in densely planted tanks.
