Offering Ameca splendens (Butterfly Goodeid).
A large livebearing species growing to approximately 4 inches, this fish originates in Mexico, where it was once believed to be extinct. Displaying a sparkling body and yellow lined fin in the male, they appreciate rocky, densely planted tanks where they can establish a hierarchy in large groups, with 8 or more being recommended. The females produce fully formed fry, in smaller numbers than conventional livebearer fish. They are best watched carefully if kept with smaller fish or those with extensive finnage, as they are prone to bullying and fin nipping. Aim to provide a balanced diet, with emphasis on vegetable matter to keep them healthy, especially green algae as found in their natural habitat.
