Description

Offering Amatitlania nigrofasciata (Convict Cichlid).

A classic Central American Cichlid, Convicts are notorious for their behaviours, toughness, and attractive colours. They can be easily identified by their black banding on a grey, blue body, with females displaying orange bellies in many cases, and males being larger with trailing fins. Growing to around 4 – 5 inches given adequate space and time, they are stocky fish more than capable of holding their own against often larger cichlids, especially when breeding where they will aggressively defend their brood as a pair. Often suggested as a beginner fish, they are forgiving to water conditions and represent many aquarists introduction to breeding cichlids, as they will readily breed with little input needed by their owners. They will readily eat flake, frozen and live foods along with commercial alternatives, and adapt to different aquarium set-ups, though plants, wood, and river substrates are the recommended.
