Hailing from the rice paddies of Thailand, female Betta are valued for their dazzling colours and variety, as well as numerous fin types.
Females of the Betta species tend to have shorter fins than the males, they are also capable of being housed in a sorority with other females given a suitably large enough tank with plenty of plants within which to explore and retreat to.
Betta's appreciate a mixed diet, for best results try to include live/frozen foods and/or a protein rich insect based commercial food.
Given their natural instinct as territorial, fighting fish; aim to choose tankmates for betta's very carefully, avoiding long fin types, or bodies and colours closely resembling the females.
